Castlecomer Medical Centre - 3 Doctor GP practice in Kilkenny

Dr Thomas Lynch MB BCh BAO MICGP MRCGP

Doctor Thomas Lynch graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1985. He worked in a variety of different hospital and GP settings in Ireland, the UK and Australia before taking over in Castlecomer  from Dr Patrick McEneaney in 2001. He moved Castlecomer Medical Centre to a modern purpose built premises in 2008. He is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and the Irish College of General Practitioners. He holds diplomas in Children's Health and Obstetrics/Gynaecology from the Royal College of Physicians. He is a GP trainer for the South East GP training scheme. 

Dr Conor Phelan MB BCh BAO MICGP

Doctor Conor Phelan graduated from University College Dublin in 2012. He worked in hospitals in Dublin, Kilkenny and Australia before undertaking a 4 year GP training post with the UCD Dublin/Mid-Leinster GP training scheme. He joined Castlecomer Medical Centre in 2018 and formed a partnership with Dr Lynch in January 2021. He is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners. He holds a Diploma in Women's Health from the Royal College of Physicians and a Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine from the Irish College of General Practitioners. 

Dr Catherine Neary MB BCh BAO MICGP

 Doctor Catherine Neary graduated from University College Dublin in 2012. She worked in hospitals in Dublin, Kilkenny and Australia before undertaking a 4 year GP training post with the South East GP training scheme. She joined Castlecomer Medical Centre as a registrar in 2016 and returned upon full qualification in 2018. She became a partner in 2022. She is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners. She holds a Diploma in Women's Health from the Royal College of Physicians. She holds a tutor qualification in Long Acting Reversible Contraception. She currently works part time in the practice.

Nurse Caitriona Lynch

Caitriona graduated from Western Area School of Nursing, Co Tyrone in 1993. She has been working in Castlecomer Medical Centre since 2002. She provides services for phlebotomy, cervical screening , adult and child vaccination, cardiac diagnostics and chronic disease management 

Administration Team

  • Nicola Shortall,  and Aoife Delaney Tobin joined Castlecomer Medical Centre in 2004, and 2022 respectively. They undertake a wide range of administration, reception and clinical roles which are vital to the smooth running of the practice. They answer phone calls, provide initial triage of calls and book patients into appointments accordingly. They pride themselves on their professionalism and strive to facilitate patients in any way they can. 
  • Geraldine McGrath joined the practice in 2010 as a medical secretary. She now works within the practice as a GP assistant and Practice manager, the role of GP assistant includes carrying out ECG's, 24 hour Blood Pressure monitors and phlebotomy. Since 2022, her principal role is practice manager. 

GP Registrars

  • We are a training practice for the South East GP training Scheme. There is usually 1 or 2 GP registrars working in Castlecomer Medical Centre, These are fully qualified doctors who are undertaking further training to specialise in general practice/family medicine. Our current registrars are  Dr Sundas and Dr Campbell 

University of Limerick Medical and University College Dublin students

We often have a 3rd or 4th year Medical Student from UL. Occasionally we have students from UCD.
