The surgery will have no routine lab access from December 19th 2024. The surgery will be open for non routine appointments on the 20th, 23rd, 27th,30th and 31st of December. Care Doc will be on duty over the Christmas period and can be contacted on 0818 300 365.
Normal Routine surgery will resume on January 2nd 2025.
Since July 1st 2022 you cannot telephone the surgery for your prescription and you must now order prescriptions online or in writing. There are forms available in reception for those who do not wish to use the online ordering.
All requests must be made online or in writing and dropped to the surgery. You must allow 48 WORKING HOURS (2 Working days) for completion of a request. Payment for a prescription for private patients must also be made using the separate link. Thank You

* COVID 19 Vaccine - Access to a COVID-19 vaccine in Autumn 2024 should be available for those aged 18-59
years who, following discussion of their reasons with a health care provider request vaccination. The recommended minimum interval following infection or vaccination is six months, however
shorter intervals down to three months are permissible in certain circumstances e.g. planned
immunosuppressive therapy or operational reasons to ensure early protection this autumn if the
spring booster was given at least 3 months ago.NIAC recommend that the COVID-19 autumn booster vaccine can be co-administered with the influenza vaccine, where a person is eligible for both vaccines, to maximise uptake.

If you have a medical card, you can get certain health services free of charge. Usually, your dependent spouse or partner and your children can also get the same range of health services for free. Your medical card is issued by the Health Service Executive (HSE), but it is your responsibility to apply for same, they are not issued automatically.
If you are ‘ordinarily resident’ in Ireland you can apply for a medical card. This means that you are living in Ireland and intend to live here for at least one year.
To qualify for a medical card, your weekly income must be below a certain figure for your family size. Cash income, savings, investments and property (except for your own home) are taken into account in the means test. You may now be eligible under the New Thresholds from September 2023.
If you do not qualify for a full medical card you may qualify for doctor visit card.
All children under 8 years of age living in Ireland can get a GP visit card.

If you don’t have your child’s PPS number, phone the Department of Social Protection on 0818 927 999 or email cis@welfare.ie. If your baby is under 4 months, you can still register. We’ll ask you for their PPS at a later date.

Castlecomer Medical Centre provides a broad range of medical services to our patients in Castlecomer and the surrounding rural area of North Kilkenny. We are a three doctor practice working from a modern purpose-built medical centre.
Dr Thomas Lynch established the current practice in 2001 having taken over from Dr Patrick MacEneaney. The practice moved into our current building in 2008.
Dr Conor Phelan joined the practice in 2018 and formed a partnership with Dr Lynch in 2021.
Dr Catherine Neary worked as a registrar while she was on the GP training scheme, she started work as a GP in 2018 and joined as a partner in 2022.
As we are a GP training practice. There is usually one or two GP registrar doctors from the South East General Practice Training Scheme working in the practice.
The practice is affiliated with the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School and usually has a medical student attached to the practice for an 18 week semester and with UCD with placements taking place during the year at intervals.

The surgery is open Monday to Friday 9am to 12noon and 3pm to 5pm and is by appointment only . The phone lines are open 8am to 12 noon and 2pm to 5pm, duringlunch or in the event of a power cut or lines being down the emergency mobile will be answered for emergencies and the number is 0852047173. Since the lifting of COVID restrictions patients can now book face to face appointments directly. If there are no appointments available on the same day the reception staff will advise you of this.
If you feel your issue requires urgent assessment, please advise the reception staff and they will try to arrange an urgent appointment or a telephone triage call. You will need to give as much information as possible if your issue is urgent so that we can give you the appropriate attention as soon as possible. Please note a GP surgery receptionist is not simply someone who answers the phone - they are specially trained to help you get the most appropriate treatment as fast as possible. In order to do this, they may need to ask you questions about why you need to see a doctor. Your right to privacy will always be respected and if you do not wish to disclose any information but feel your issue is urgent, please inform reception staff of this and a doctor will endeavor to contact you as soon as possible.
